I can't believe the month is gone already. I mean, the whole of January. Whoosh. See ya, saiyonara, adios. Gone. And that means it's time to round up everything I've done this month and shove it into an edition. This time, with a bit more of in depth explanations for some of my recs. So, enjoy :)

Scrapbook 2012 - February Edition

♥Book Recs

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han | The Belly Conklin Trilogy → 1/2
  • I really enjoyed this book mostly because of all the conflicting romances. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. The characters were compelling without being a little too over-dramatic, which I sometimes find with some of Sarah Dessen's books (don't get me wrong, I love those a lot). Belly, the main character, is a great example of a nagging, younger sister that pines for the love and acceptance of the boys she grew up with. The only thing that bugs me a little is that you don't see more of the older brother, Stephen (also one of the only ones with a somewhat normal name), but maybe he'll show up in the next books more. If I ever get there, that is.
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan | The Heroes of Olympus Series → 1/2
  • I will admit, at this time, I do believe that I am a little older than Rick Riordan's target audience. However, I loved the Percy Jackson series when I was in the target audience and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to submerge myself in that world again. The creativity that comes with mixing mythology and entertaining characters such as Percy and Frank is a great idea. I also applaud Rick for creating a big enough storyline to span the five novels of the Percy Jackson series and carry into the Heroes of Olympus series as well. I'm very excited for the next installment.

♥Movie Recs

Kiki's Delivery Service →
  • I'm not going to lie, this movie is pretty old and I really should have watched it a when I was younger, but it's a bit like a Disney movie: it's great no matter what age you see it. Hayao Miyazaki is pretty much the Walt Disney of Japan and has continued to produce fantastic animated films. Kiki's Delivery Service is a touching tale of a young witch setting off on her own for the first time and her trials and tribulations that come with it. It's definitely a favourite film of mine now and if you enjoyed this, I strongly recommend watching Miyazaki's other films.

♥TV Recs

Chuck
  • Okay, so this show actually just wrapped up it's final season last week, but seriously, Chuck is a show that everyone needs to watch because it's fantastic. It's got the right mix of romance, comedy, and action and, unlike a lot of shows where the couple you're rooting for gets married, the show does not go downhill after that point in time. The final season was probably not as good as some of the previous ones, but I think the writers did a great job of wrapping up the whole thing in a satisfying way (though I wasn't that satisfied with the ending, but whatever. It was pretty good). So go out and buy all five seasons and get ready for some laughs and some cries and set aside some time to make your own Nerd Herd t-shirt.

NHL Allstar Game
  • Technically, this isn't really a television program and it only comes on once a year, but I love the NHL Allstar Game. And it's also not just because I'm going through a hockey kick right now and Patrick Kane was there. However, it was a lot of fun to watch. Everything from the draft to the skills competition (which was fantastic) to the actual game, it was a great show of what the game of hockey used to be in contrast to what it has become. So, if it's possible, and you like hockey, I strongly recommend looking it up online and enjoy rooting for either Team Alfredsson, Team Chara, or both (like me).

♥Music Recs

It Will Rain by Bruno Mars
  • I wasn't really into this song when it first came out, mostly because I wasn't too keen on the sound of Bruno Mars' voice, but it's definitely grown on me in the last couple weeks.
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson
  • I didn't listen to this song until it reached number one on the Canadian iTunes chart, but it's quite catchy. Or at least, the chorus is. The verses are a little dry compared to the rest of the song, but I can live with it, I guess.
A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
  • I actually quite like this song despite the movie it was written for (Breaking Dawn). Christina Perri has a great voice and the lyrics are quite sweet and soulful.
Hit The Lights by Selena Gomez
  • The verses in this song are a lot better than the chorus, I think, but I do enjoy this song. Actually, I really like Selena Gomez in general when it comes to her music, but it's a fun song to listen to and dance to.
Want U Back ft. Astro by Cher Lloyd
  • Cher Lloyd has definitely grown on me since Swagger Jagger. Like, seriously, that song was catchy but weird. This song is probably the best that I've heard from her so far, and the addition of Astro is ... nice, I guess. Whatever, you can decide that part for yourself.
Without You ft. Usher by David Guetta
  • A little late on this one, but I love the lyrics and I admire Usher's range for the song. I seriously thought it was two people singing it until I watched the video. Awesome.
  • I think this is easily my favourite song of the month. I have yet to listen to the rest of Snow Patrol's new album, but this song is incredibly catchy with somewhat deep lyrics and and good base line.
  • If anything, this song really displays how weak Taylor Swift's voice can be, but I love the softness of the song and the harmonizing done by The Civil Wars. The lyrics are also very well written, which is nice.
  • While I do enjoy the original version, I decided to share the Walk Off the Earth version with you mostly because the video is great and I love the girl's voice (her name escapes me, my bad) on this and overall, the song is just fantastic. Both versions are great so I'd recommend both songs.

Gone to the Dogs by

LJ | Hockey RPF | PG-13 | ~6800 words
| Pair: Jonathan Toews/Patrick Kane |
Jonathan Toews turns into a puppy. Some other stuff happens.
  • This story is incredibly cute. Mostly because I love puppies, especially golden retrievers, but seriously, it's nice to read some fluff every once in a while. And I like these kinds of things. So yeah.

LJ or DW | One Direction | PG-13 | ~7500
| Pair: the mothers with various Greek gods |
Jay is nineteen years old, beautiful, and stuffing a designer scarf down her bra in the changing room at Harrods.
  • I think what I like the most about this story is that it's so incredibly different from any 1D fic I've ever read.  I mean, it features the mums (sounds a little creepy, but V pulls it off in a totally non-creepy way).  It's just, it's such a great read because it's done up so well and paints a very good picture.  I definitely recommend this to any One Direction fan.
  • I use this bag for school. It's not really the best thing ever, but I will admit that it is a great bag and I think it'll be of more use to me later in life. It's pretty standard as far as bags go, but it does have a lot of pockets, which is nice. I don't think it's worth the price though, but if you're willing to dish out over a hundred bucks for it, go for it.
  • Tiny Tower is pretty much the most addicting game I've come across for mobile devices. It can be found on both Apple and Android products (warning, on the Android, it will use your data) and once you download it, you can kiss goodbye to your life. Its one of those FarmVille things, I think, because there isn't much objective to it: you're just trying to build the highest tower ever and get people to live in it and make money. That's it. If you do download it though, don't blame me for your lost hours. You have been warned.

Oh man I totally have a thing for A Thousand Years. That song actually kind of makes me cry. ;_; Just the fact that it's Twilight... hrgn... the fact that A Thousand Years is literal and not metaphoric makes it less cute.

The TSwift song is cute too. It's actually one of the few songs by her I unironically like, probably because it sounds nothing like her at all. Maybe collaborations are good for her.
